Update #10 for Wyatt Paul Sherwood
8.19.21
So we had a little bit of a set back but it isn't anything that causes alarm. Babies born early, preemies, are not fully developed. While Wyatt has been doing amazing with his feedings, he has been having a bit of a reflux issue. When babies have a reflux issue their "spit ups" are equivalent to us throwing up. This means when he has a significant "spit up" not only is he getting all the nutrients and breastmilk but he is Aldo having an issue keeping his heart rate up when an episode happens. Then he searches for more food like he is hungry. Due to this they changed him from a scheduled, every three hour feed, to a continuous feed. This means that they feed him the equivalent of 20 ml every 3 hours over a day in a continuous fashion. Then they also added his IV back last night just to give him a bit more fluid and calm down his reflux. They also added a medium size tube into his belly, similar to the feeding tube, so that he is able to expel gas while feeding, or burp. They will work him back up to full feeds (22ml every 3 hours) in the next couple of days. The most important thing about all of this is Wyatt is liking this progress better and he is now more comfortable/not having "spit up" episodes.
Other than that, he is doing very well and they are continuously amazed by this progress! Chuncker also gained more weight. He is now at 2lbs 11.4 oz. They think in the next couple of days he will reach that 3 lb mark. Each pound is another step closer to mommy and daddy taking the little guy home!
I can't thank the doctors, nurses and everyone that has been caring for us all during this time.
😇🙏🏻 Thank you so much Wyatt's Warriors, please keep the prayers coming! 🙏🏻😇
