Update #54 for Wyatt Paul Sherwood

10.2.21

Well, everyone in the NICU has told me that this is the HARDEST part of the NICU process. They also told me that "when it clicks (feeding) it will click and he will be on his way to home real quick"... and they were not lying. Today Wyatt took leaps in his progress! He went to adlib feeding. This means that chuncky monkey is eating however much he wants when he wants (still within the every 3 hours). He even decided he was going to eat more than what they required in the past. His requirement is 44ml every 3 hours and squishy has been waking up and asking for 50 to 60ml per bottle. I am very proud of him for all of his progress. The plan is now that they will try him off of his nasal cannula tomorrow and if he does well he WILL be home on Tuesday!!!! This will give him 48 hours without the oxygen so that the nurses can verify he CAN do it on his own. Then Monday they will circumcise him and Tuesday he will get his first round of his Synagis shots. I will have to make an appointment with Dr. Szabo (our primary care physician)around October 11th for his 60 day shots and another quick appointment in November for another Synagis shot!

I refuse to say if because I believe my baby boy wants to come home and I believe that my baby boy has people above encouraging him to come home to his family. There are quite a few people (Anastasia Lynn Sherwood, Jill Geffers Molzahn, Jenna Aman, Kyle Molzahn and Michael Patten <just to name a few>) who really want to meet him and have been praying for him to come home healthy! I also believe that prayers have done amazing things so far and I pray that my baby boy will be home healthy, safe and ready on Tuesday!

These are the qualifications for Wyatt to get home too: eating a full bottle or "feed" without problems, be able to regulate his body temperature in a crib, be on room air/ no cords, be at least 4lbs 5oz and pass the carseat test.

Carseat Test: must sit in thd carseat for 90 to 120 minutes or the length of the car ride home (45 min), whichever is longer. During the test, the nurse will monitor your baby’s heart rate, breathing and oxygen level. As long as there is no change and he can hold his head up okay, without problem than he passes!

Oh, and mommy and daddy have to pass the baby CPR, shaken baby and carseat safety tests before he comes home.

I can't thank the doctors, nurses and everyone that has been caring for us all during this time.

😇🙏🏻 Thank you so much Wyatt's Warriors, please keep the prayers coming! 🙏🏻😇
